![]() ![]() ![]() I’m quite an experienced meditator but can tend to be a bit lazy/distracted sometimes, and having the feedback really helps me focus. I’ve been using it a couple of times a week, doing normal sitting the rest of the time, and I think the quality of my meditation has improved even when I’m not using it. I’m not sure if the other sensors are very important - they add some variety but there doesn’t seem to be a fusion mode so I tend to use the eeg most of the time. Whether you ‘get many birds’ is very dependent on how still our mind was when you calibrate it at the start of a session - I go for what I call ‘hard mode’, making an effort to keep my mind very still during the calibration so that I have to really focus to get those bird sounds. There’s a bit of a delay between when you become distracted and when the sounds change (maybe a second or so) and I think more immediate feedback would be even better. I’ve owned a few devices like this and all of them before this one have been useless. I’m a believer in biofeedback, it makes sense to me that a bit of external reference would be a useful thing to deepen meditation practise, especially for beginners and at times when you’re distracted. I have given 4 stars - why? Because I have nothing else to compare it to.Īll I can say is that it seems to work for me. A link from the app to a personal website or PC version might also be useful - like my fitbit app, as trying to read the screen on a smartphone is not easy! I would have liked more 'initial' sessions to use it - I have a number of guided meditations downloaded which I have yet to try - something to act as a bridge might have been useful. Is this accurate or as some might suggest just a placebo? Well unless I was going to hook myself up to a 25-30K University system to check for accuracy I may not have experimental evidence, but if it leaves me with a sense of relaxation and well being am I going to knock it? The mind can be a very powerful thing that can make you ill, so by extension, it must also be able to help. I use a body, heart and mind session, and seem to get positive results. I can drop off at a moments notice during the day but getting off an night can be a struggle and I don't like taking drugs to sleep. I use it in the evenings to try to get myself into a frame of mind to be able to sleep. I do however have one of the later models of smartphone, purchased because my previous one kept running out of memory to run the already limited number of apps on there. Equally easy to use with the headband once charged. I found the app reasonably easy to download and set up - at least compared with some I have struggled with. You may think you need headphones to connect to you smart-phone or android tablet - but a bluetooth speaker will work just as well. ![]() Now in retirement and experiencing some levels of stress from time to time I felt it was something I should at least try. As a student I was recommended to try meditation - but back then as a student of course I knew better. I acquired a biofeedback device years ago (which measured skin resistance and varied in volume depending on how I felt) which I then lost and since then had been from time to time looking for something which could track my various rhythms, and provide some feedback. I can only say that I while I am still at a novice level, I am reasonably pleased with the purchase. I note that there have been a number of very positive and very negative reviews of this item.
